Trip Overview
Start/End: Iskandar Airport (PKN), Pangkalan Bun.
Accommodation: Overnight on the Klotok (upper deck with mosquito nets or AC cabin).
Highlights: Camp Leakey, Pondok Tanggui, Tanjung Harapan, and night river cruises.

TOUR PROGRAM
Day 1: Arrival & The River Gateway
Morning: Pick-up from Iskandar Airport (PKN) by your guide. A 20-minute drive takes you to Kumai Port.
12:00 PM: Board your Klotok. Lunch is served as you begin the 2-hour cruise up the Sekonyer River. Keep an eye out for crocodiles and kingfishers.
3:00 PM: Reach Tanjung Harapan (Camp 1). Take a short trek to the feeding station to see your first orangutans.
Late Afternoon: Cruise slowly while looking for Proboscis Monkeys (endemic to Borneo) settling in the trees along the riverbank for the night.
Evening: Dinner on the deck under the stars. Overnight on the boat.

Day 2: The Legendary Camp Leakey
Morning: Enjoy breakfast while cruising deeper into the park. The water turns from muddy brown to “black water” (tea-colored) as you enter the side creek.
11:30 AM: Arrive at Camp Leakey, the most famous research center. Visit the Information Center to learn about Dr. Biruté Galdikas’ work.
2:00 PM: Witness the orangutan feeding at the Camp Leakey platform. This is often where the “King” (dominant male) of the area appears.
Late Afternoon: Trek back to the boat. If you’re lucky, you may spot wild gibbons or wild pigs.
Evening: Candlelight dinner on the boat. Overnight near the camp or a quiet river bend.

Day 3: Rehabilitation & Conservation
9:00 AM: Visit Pondok Tanggui (Camp 2) for the morning feeding session. This camp focuses on adolescent orangutans.
11:00 AM: Continue to Pesalat, a reforestation site. You can trek through the peat swamp forest and even plant a sapling to contribute to the park’s restoration.
2:00 PM: Optional second visit to a feeding station or a visit to the Sekonyer Village to see local life on the river.
Night: As the boat cruises back toward the Nipa palm area, look for fireflies lighting up the trees like Christmas lights (weather permitting).

Day 4: Farewell to the Jungle
Morning: Relaxing breakfast as the boat makes its final cruise back to Kumai. This is your last chance for bird watching and spotting monkeys.
9:30 AM: Arrive at Kumai Port. Say goodbye to your boat crew.
10:30 AM: Transfer back to Iskandar Airport for your departing flight.

This 4-day tour is a fully inclusive experience that covers your airport transfers, private boat (klotok), national park permits, and all meals. Your crew—consisting of a guide, captain, and cook—takes care of everything so you can focus on the wildlife. Just keep in mind that the boat offers a simple, rustic lifestyle, sleeping on the deck under mosquito nets.

To ensure a smooth trip, you must bring two physical copies of your passport for police and park registration. Essential items to pack include lightweight long-sleeved clothing, high-DEET insect repellent, sunscreen, a flashlight, and any personal medications. Since the area is predominantly Muslim, alcohol is not available, so plan accordingly for a “dry” adventure in the jungle.

While the package is comprehensive, it does not include tips for the crew or personal expenses. Prices also tend to increase during the peak season from May to September. By preparing these few basics, you can enjoy a seamless journey into the heart of Borneo, witnessing orangutans in their natural habitat and supporting local conservation efforts.
